Sidharth Agarwal and Vidur Gupta
When we started in 2008, the sole motivation came from our strong belief in staffing as the next big wave of business in the outsourcing space. We knew that with most of the economy in the country being accounted for by services businesses, the human factor was already immensely strategic to firms and that there had to be exclusive outsourcing needs around that! And if you look around today, our thoughts weren't invalid – more than 80% of all sorts of firms around the world use staffing services to outsource their manpower requirements. This gives them the leverage of specialization, effort, time and cost. The industry today is a whopping billions of US dollars in overall potential internationally, and so in the Indian context, where the potential would easily be a good few billion USDs. However, the dearth of qualitative service providers is a major lacuna of this densely crowded industry in India. If you look at the no. of players by quantity, just Delhi NCR would have, say, about ten thousands of them. However, if you go assessing these firms by a couple of qualifying qualitative parameters, even 15% may not qualify on basics like infrastructure, educated and skilled resources, processes & systems, and significantly, the correct vision to do big in the industry and the customer community. That was the opportunity for us!
HR Industry Trends
Starting with Pharma and Automobile as our first industries of focus, we clocked the initial few lacs in the first six months of starting-up. We were joined then by some of our MBA batchmates and socially linked professionals who co-believed in our vision. That's how the basic team got built. With the passage of time, we became a healthy 35 by the end of the first year – though humble, the no. was enough to demonstrate reasonable scale, like that maintained by boutique firms in the industry. Fortunately, arranging the office premise was more than smooth because one of our family businesses had a decent commercial office space in Noida. Hence, that was our obvious choice for the main office. Aspects like Business Development, Communication & PR, etc. were, in the early days, handled by either of us. However, today, we have dedicated teams around these functions, acting as support groups to the various BUs within the company.
